2001 Pax Syrah, Russian River Valley Lauterbach Hill

This is our second vintage working with fruit from this unique vineyard. Our 2001 has the same exotic perfume that made our 2000 special, but this one is more concentrated and is showing greater potential at this early stage. The minerality from this vineyard is more quartz and wet stone in flavor than say the Castelli - Knight Ranch, which is more of a ‘heavy metal’ type of mineral. This quartz character seems to highlight the exotic component that really sets this wine apart from our others.

Tasting Note:
Blackberries, Blueberries & tar explode from the glass as the licorice, white pepper and violets lurk in the depths. In the mouth, concentrated layer upon layer of blackberry liqueur, quartz and peppered steak cascade over your palate. The supple mid palate leads into a seamless and exceptionally long finish, which brings more exotic meaty and floral aromas and that minerality that we have grown to expect from this gravelly vineyard.
