2001 Pax Syrah, Russian River Valley Walker Vine Hill ‘Short Rows’

Vine Hill is famous for the Chardonnay & Pinot Noir that grow remarkably well in the goldridge soils that cover its many exposures. Katherine Walker has planted her South Facing portion of Vine Hill to Syrah. Our section of ‘Short Rows’ at the very top of the vineyard is densely planted and is farmed to our strict canopy and crop load standards that enable us to ripen the Syrah fruit fully in this very cool site.

Tasting Note:
Tar, Blueberries, and coffee announce the arrival of this beastly Syrah. The wine is very big and supple in the mouth, full-bodied and powerful, but retains a natural focus from its cold climate growing conditions. The mid-palate is as full as the attack, bringing more sweet fruit and roasted coffee character. The back end is equally impressive, and adds firm tannins and dark chocolate.
