2003 Pax Syrah, Alder Springs Vineyard, Mendocino County

Alder Springs is a 6000 acre ranch. The ranch has 3-4 acre parcels that dot the hillside, and each is unique in its elevation, clones and expositions. Every year another new block or two of Syrah has been added to the final blend of this wine. The 2003 Alder Springs includes the "West Block", "Emerald Pool", "The Terraces", and for the first time "The Ridge" and "The Knob". We are confident that this is our best yet.

Tasting Note:
Roasted meats, violets, tar, chemise flowers and dried herbs leap from the glass. A right cross of huge sweet fruit, minerals, lush tannins and bacon fat assault your palate. A stunning wine to taste, layered and huge but never over the top or too much. The finish seems to last forever and adds additional layers of forest floor, pie spice and cocoa powder.
