2005 Pax Syrah, Castelli-Knight Ranch, Russian River Valley

Another strong year for this wine, the 2005 has a thicker core of sweet fruit than usual. All of the tell-tale traits from this vineyard are present, intense pepper, blackberry fruit, iron and spicy tannins. The wines from this unique vineyard are always more on the big, scary, tannic side of Syrah that require a little more time in the cellar to really shine. Give this one some time before you pull a cork or serve with fatty red meat.

Tasting Note:
Explosive pink pepper, blackberry pie, crushed rocks, iron and crème du mure jump from the surface of this purple/black beast. In the mouth the wine overtakes your palate with huge flavors of ripe blackberries, iron, exotic purple flowers, graphite, minerals and more pepper. The finish is firmly tannic with ripe warm fruits, grilled berries and black strap molasses.
