2005 Pax Syrah, Griffins Lair, Sonoma Coast
Tiny Berries and tiny clusters yielded some of the sweetest darkest juice that we have seen from this vineyard.
While we questioned this vineyards ability to ripen its fruit in 2005, it did so with ease. For the first time we
chose to pick the clones separately in order to pick each at their peak maturity, an often times futile practice by
winemakers that was completely necessary in 2005. This wine is once again a dichotomy, rustic and powerful with
mouth coating tannins that promise a long life, but with enough flesh & charm to enjoy young.

Tasting Note:
Sweet blue flowers, chalk, purple fruit, black salt, boudin noir and exotic sweet litchi jump from the wild aromas of
what is becoming one of my favorite wines in our line-up. Intense currant, black pepper, massive tannins and the
thickest sweetest middle palate of any wine that we have made from this vineyard to date along with the telltale
Griffins Lair traits of iodine, coarse gravel and nori, round out the rustic nature of this beastly Syrah.
