2005 Pax Syrah, Obsidian Vineyard, Knights Valley
Never have grapes looked as perfect as these did the day we picked this vineyard in 2005. The pinnacle of
ripeness in the grapes was achieved at a modest 14.0% potential alcohol. The grapes were loaded with flavor,
showed zero signs of dehydration or heat stress and exploded with natural acidity and sweet blue fruit. This
supple and lush 2005 Obsidian won't require as much cellar time as the 2003 to show its incredible detail, depth
and breadth of pure mountain grown Syrah.

Tasting Note:
Sweet blackberry pie, blueberries, pipe tobacco, little white flowers and maple syrup are all included in the dark
aromas this wine offers. A massive attack of thick blackberry, pink pepper, purple and white flowers, ultra
concentrated sweet tar dipped blueberries and black fruit make for one of the most opulent young Syrahs I have ever
tasted. The thick middle has brown spice, tar, white rocks, baking spice and fig compote. The finish has sweet
tannins and continues the cacophony of fruit and spice long after the wine has been swallowed. The tannins
catch-up with your palate once all of the massive fruit has faded and clinch in briefly before disintegrating into
a long dusty chocolaty finish.
