2006 Pax Syrah, Alder Springs Vineyard, Mendocino County
The 2006 seems to be a bit more generous on the palate than the previous two vintages from this vineyard. Once again this wine is not about power; its beauty is in its finesse and depth of concentration without coming across as overbearing. A cross between the luscious 2003 and sexy 2002, this wine is uncharacteristic of the 2006 growing season at this early point in time.

Tasting Note:
Black plums, licorice, tobacco and pure mineral driven red fruit dominate the aroma. Fresh strawberry, spiced black plum, and partially ripe blackberries lead the forward attack while white flowers and violets complicate the inner mouth bouquet. The finish is all about fine tannins, mineral and vibrant fresh strawberry. A very graceful wine disguised as a California Syrah.
