2006 Pax Syrah, Castelli-Knight Ranch, Russian River Valley
A tiny crop load and a cool season have given the 2006 Syrah from this gravelly clay filled hillside an even more intensely tannic nature than we have seen to date. Deftly balanced by the massive black fruits and peppery quality that we expect, this wine is stacked and loaded, it just needs some time to unravel in your cellar.

Tasting Note:
Pepper, cured meat, intense small berries and spice on the atypically subdued aromas of this particular bottling. The attack is dense and precise and not as supple and sweet as past bottlings at this early stage. Muscular black fruits, violets, herbs, roasted plum skin and pink pepper carry into and beyond the clean and deliciously tannic finish. This wine seems most similar to the gorgeous 2001, which is years away from reaching its plateau.
