2006 Pax Syrah, Griffins Lair, Sonoma Coast
The perpetual wind that buffets this hillside creates one of the most consistently concentrated wines in our line-up. The cold nights preserve the wines natural acidity keeping it fresh, and the coarse gravelly soil adds the rustic tannin and mineral cut that this wine boasts. Altogether a noteworthy wine that is unique to where it is grown and as pure as an example of California Syrah that we know.

Tasting Note:
Cured meat, bacon fat, currants and graphite smoke announce the fact your about to experience a Griffins Lair Syrah. The wine is pleasantly supple from the intense concentration of the tiny berries. The fascinating dichotomy of rustic tannins and sweet fruit fill the mid-palate. The finish brings back those meaty, gamey elements balanced by creamy black and brisk red fruits with that pleasant saline quality that we have grown to expect in this wine. This 2006 is an interesting cross between the 2005 & 2003 versions of this wine.
