2006 Pax Syrah, Majik Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
This pretty little vineyard is on a ridge west of Sebastopol overlooking Marin County to the south. This wine has taught us to rethink what California Syrah can be: outrageously aromatic, concentrated, but light on its feet. In so many words, if your tastes lean more towards sweet-fruit-driven-close-to-the-top massively concentrated California Syrah, invest in the Emerald Pool and leave this one for the rest of us.

Tasting Note:
Violets, seared meat, cherry blossoms, spicy stems, white pepper and dusty leather on the intoxicating aroma. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red plum, cherries, meat, bacon fat and violet pastille covered strawberry-rhubarb pie fresh from the oven. The finish is beyond words (at least mine) as it is as detailed and pure and vivid minutes after swallowing the wine as it is to taste it…I find myself tasting the wine and swallowing it quickly just so that I can experience what its like to not have it in my mouth…..fascinating!
