2006 Pax Roussanne/Viognier, Venus, Sonoma County

Roussanne from Bennett Valley is blended with three tiny Viognier plantings from the Sonoma Coast. The Roussanne is rich and luxurious on the palate while the Viognier brings cut and definition. Half of the Viognier was fermented on its skins utilizing an ancient method called maceration pellicullaire.

63% Roussanne / 37% Viognier
40 % new French Oak
14.3 % Alc by Vol
3.81 pH
265 cases produced

Tasting Note:
Cloudy and hazy in appearance this decadent white wine is not for the faint. Quince, Pear-skin, Apricot and ripe white peach aromas leap from the glass. The palate is saturated and heavy with the glycerin of being fermented on its skins. The wine expands in your mouth with sweet flavors of peaches and pears. A spicy peach pit quality adds nuance to this otherwise fruit driven monster of a white wine. The finish shows up eventually in the form of a heady mix of canned pears and crisp linen.
